THIS IS A PARODY

At UC San Diego, non-STEM departments and students are not given the quality of facilities and resources given to STEM departments and its students. This project was made in an effort to express frustration and to bring attention to this problem.

At UC San Diego

The Undergraduate population is 56.3% STEM majors and 43.7% Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and other non-STEM majors (as of Fall Quarter 18-19).

Although this university is considered to be primarily STEM, non-STEM majors comprise a significant amount of the student populace.

STEM >

non-STEM

There is a social hierarchy that exists on this campus where STEM majors are treated as the superior individuals of the student population. However, this is not only a social notion; the feelings are validated by the physical environments on campus where we see that there is a clear inequality in resources and facilities.

A look inside UCSD's Theatre & Dance Dept.

Let's compare.

TATA HALL

FOR THE SCIENCES

Galbraith Hall is a shared space that houses the Theatre & Dance Department as well as multipurpose spaces.

Built in 1964 as the campus' original library & renovated in 2013.

Tata Hall is the new building for the Biological & Physical Sciences.

A $110 million project, planned in 2016 & completed in 2018.

Why has the Theatre & Dance department not been given its own building in its 40 years of existence? It is certainly possible for UCSD to materialize resources quickly for other departments.

A space of

our own.

Yet, it does not even have an entire building dedicated to the department. It is shoved in the corner of an older, shared building.

"I definitely feel under appreciated by the university. Our department is valuable to UCSD, yet the needs of its students are overlooked. UCSD can and should do better for its non-STEM students."
